The Polk County Builders Association, chartered by the National Association of Home Builders in 1952,is a construction industry association comprised of builder and associate members. The association promotes quality, affordable housing for the citizens of Polk County while creating a favorable and prosperous business climate for its members.

PCBA's mission is to serve its members and community through proactive involvement in:

  • Governmental activities affecting the building industry.
  • Ethical business practices and standards.
  • Promotion of members' products and services.
  • Continuing education.

Successful business people, large and small, invariably belong to the organization that represents their industry. They recognize that no man or business is likely to survive without the assistance, cooperation and collective action of their peers. Regardless of their endeavor, those with common interests have found the best way to solve common problems - - to achieve common goals -- to gain knowledge -- to grow and develop -- is through voluntary group action. In the Polk County homebuilding industry, you'll find successful businesses, including your associates and competitors, belong to PCBA. Association membership is one of the smartest business investments you'll ever make.

Brief History

The Polk County Builders Association was formed in 1944 as part of the Northeast Florida Builders Association and later the South Florida Builders Association. As Florida grew, areas were divided and in 1946, Polk County became part of the Contractors and Builders Association of Pinellas County. The PCBA was chartered with the National Association of Home Builders in 1952.

By the 60's, east and west Polk County split into two homebuilder associations. In 1971, the HBA of Greater Lakeland merged with the BA of Greater Winter Haven and in 1972, a corporate name change was filed with the state, renaming the organization Polk County Builders Association.

With member companies representing all facets of housing construction, the association provides its members with services, programs, legislative representation and membership opportunities.

We are a not-for-profit, 501(c)(6) corporation representing home builders, remodelers, developers, suppliers and subcontractors, manufacturers and housing-related professionals operating within Polk County. Owning a home is part of the American Dream and we are, through our members, the provider who meets the housing needs of the community. We also are the authoritative voice and information source for housing to the government, the public and the housing consumer.

PCBA is one of over 675 home builder associations in the United States. There are 26 other home builder associations in the state of Florida, all of which have formed the Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA) as the state association to lobby the legislature. They also carry out programs that are more effectively implemented at the state, rather than the local level.
