| AMRC (American Management Resources Corporation) EPA-Accredited RRP Training Providers. UNLICENSED CONTRACTING It is important that members report unlicensed contractors to the proper authority. Unlicensed Contractors hurt the industry by undercutting cost because they do know follow the proper regulations or carry insurance. Many times unlicensed contractors take money & do not complete the job or do substandard work. This gives the entire industry a bad reputation. When reporting unlicensed contractors please notify both the Polk County Building Department and the Department of Business & Professional Regulation. The Lead Contractor Licensing Supervisor for Polk County is Alfred Hanley, (863) 534-6536 or contact the Contractor Licensing Investigator, Paul Ochman, (863) 534-6492. The Polk County Ordinance currently allows a fine of $150 for the first offense, $300 for the second and $500 for the third. The County is in the process of reviewing the ordinance to increase the fines. The Department of Business & Professional Regulation’s Bureau of Unlicensed Activity is responsible for coordinating unlicensed activity stings and sweeps through the Regional Program Administrators, as well as providing information to consumers and other regulators regarding the dangers of using unlicensed individuals. Report unlicensed activity toll-free at 1.866.532.1440 or you can file a complaint online. The DBPR is authorized to issue a $2500 fine and will conduct an investigation. If the offense is serious enough the matter will be turned over to the State Attorney’s office for further investigation. More info available on DBPR's Website |
