Letter from the President-

April 2019

Members of the PCBA,

2019 is off to a great start here at PCBA!

I am truly proud to be your President. I am amazed with all PCBA has to offer and impressed with all the efforts, programs, benefits and moving parts there are to this place!  Many thanks are owed to Past President David Adams, Highland Homes, for all his hard work last year, which has made it easy for me to step-in and hit the ground running.

Here's what has been going on:

  • Membership: We have already recruited 23 new members this year.  We have a strong membership committee, chaired by Rickey Nicholson, Ferguson, and are gearing up for our membership drive in May. We are hand delivering membership packets, making visits to potential new members, holding membership orientations, and will be bringing back the Spike Club (although I'm not sure about those jackets!).  Also, proud to announce that Rickey was recently recognized at the FHBA Spring Legislative Conference as a rising leader for his efforts and commitment to growing PCBA.   P.S. if you missed our Meet the Builder event at Ferguson's showroom, you missed out on a great opportunity to find new business connections and wonderful food that rivaled any 5-star restaurant.

  • 2020 Building Committee: Thank you Randy Stinson, Stinson Home Design Center, for chairing this committee. We are giving PCBA a make-over and starting from the outside and working our way in. Thank you to Mark McDowell, McDowell Landscape, for the complimentary landscape facelift, and to Ken Hess Irrigation for replacing our irrigation box for free. New member, Xcellent Xteriors, noticed that our building and gutters needed pressure washing and offered to provide the service at no charge. Guys, we really appreciate you seeing what needed to be done and doing it!

  • PCBA Foundation, FBA & Construction Academy:  I attended my first Foundation meeting, chaired by Mike Hickman, Hickman Homes, and was more than impressed with all their efforts to train our future workforce. Our members raised more than $6000 to send kids to FBA's Leadership Camp and are committed to making sure that our high school construction academies succeed. One example is John Wood, Jr., John Wood Homes, who supplied all the initial needs for Lake Regions's Construction Academy.

  • Another Sold-Out, Fun Golf Tournament:   Thank you to Lucas Martin, Floralawn, and your committee for a tremendously successful event at Huntington Hills on March 15.  We appreciate our tournament and purse sponsors, Carpenter Contractors of America and Preferred Materials, and all of our major and supporting sponsors, goodie bag and raffle prize donors and hard-working volunteers. Congrats to Darnell Waste Solutions for winning Best Watering Hole!

  • International Building Show Recap:  I attended IBS (unfortunate abbreviation I know) in Las Vegas in February and enjoyed the show and the fantastic classes and speakers. Some members recognized by NAHB during the convention were: Cement Products and Joyner Lumber for being members for more than 50 years; and Mike Green, Green Construction Services, chair of our Remodelers Council, for forming an official NAHB Remodelers Council in 2018.

  • FHBA Spring Legislative Conference/Polk County Days: William Webb, Webb HomeBuilders Group, and Jerry Prescott, Liberty Septic, traveled to Tallahassee on March 11-13 to represent PCBA. They had busy days attending important government affairs meetings and visiting with Legislators and County Commissioners. We truly appreciate the time they took away from their businesses to help protect ours!

  • Impact Fee Workshop: Thank you to Past President and County Commissioner George Lindsey for informing us on how impact fees are calculated and for listening to our concerns. We will continue to keep our members updated on this important issue.

  • PAC: Chair Greg Masters, Southern Homes, recently gave the PAC fund a generous boost to prepare for elections in 2020. Supporting candidates that are pro-business, pro-affordable housing and pro-vocational training are vital to our    industry.

Mark Your Calendars:

·  Don't Miss the Parade: Our Spring Parade runs two weekends, April 27 & 28 and May 4 & 5, with a kick-off party at the home of our Showcase Home Builder, Steve Mitchell, Easy Homes 123, on Friday, April 26. Thank you to Steve and our major sponsors MidFlorida Credit Union, Aveco, and Spraypro.
